  • This study examined the efficacy of an occupation-based program in a substance use disorder recovery facility for women. A literature review of previous studies found that occupational therapy practitioners have the skills and abilities to help those with substance use disorder enhance their occupational and functional performance. In addition, studies have found that boredom is a risk factor for relapse. This study utilized the Modified Interest Checklist to assess the needs of the clients at the recovery facility. The results of the assessment aided in the development of a program that focused on gaining new occupations and skills. The results of this study determined the need for further occupation-based programming and continuing research on the efficacy of occupational therapy services for those with substance use disorder.
